Monty Python Silly Job Interview

September 29, 2006 · Filed Under Funnies · Comment

I cannot believe it is Friday again, I just have no idea where the week goes at times! Still as it is Friday I thought I would scour the Internet for something amusing that relates to recruitment, well at least in some way.

Finally after watching a fair amount of rubbish, I managed to find some classic Monty Python. Unfortunately it isn’t the Dead Parrot Sketch but a sketch for a Job Interview.

Enjoy and have a great weekend

Recruitment and Social networking as seen by Jason Goldberg

September 27, 2006 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · Comment

Well I finally found time to watch the video of CEO Jason Goldberg, who gave a keynote address at ERExpo in Hollywood just over a week ago.

The presentation is quite long just over 40 minutes, but is certainly worth taking time out to watch if you want to get an angle on web 2.0. What I particularly got out of his presentation apart from his passion for Jobster and social networking, was the way he explained how the web has changed and how blogs, social networks, Myspace, tags etc affect us within recruitment, I do not think it could have been explained better.

The second half of the presentation is Jason’s pitch for Jobster, which if it is something you are considering then this will probably be best pitch you will ever get. For me it really helped me get an angle on what Jobster is all about and how to really find those high quality candidates you are looking for.

Having now reflected on what Jason said it finally hit home, talented people know talented people and experts mix with experts, although this is obvious I now finally understand how Jobster uses the net to pull it all together, sorry Jason it took me so long!

In reality it’s taking the referral system in recruitment, 10 steps further.

Recruitment Magazine Rant

September 25, 2006 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · 2 Comments

I have to admit I feel like a Rant, it all started with my regular email from Recruiter magazine. OK it is the main magazine for our industry and they send emails of the latest news which I find very informative, but it all goes wrong when you follow the link to the article, as there is no link to the company they quote to gain more information. You wouldn’t get that on a blog now would you!

You can certainly tell this magazine is typical of many out there who have not embraced the Internet, I am obviously glad as I wouldn’t be able to compete if they did. Anyway I decided not to moan at this point as it is a weakness I can capitalize on. Then would you believe it the very next day I get my copy of their Guide to Recruitment Software, now I may be biased but there isn’t a mention of Arithon Recruitment Software who in my opinion have the most advanced ASP based recruitment based offering on the market, let alone having been around since 1998, I ask you how can you take the magazine seriously!!!!

I thought I was done but then I remembered the September issue of Recruiter, they ran an article on Blogging and Recruitment, as a result I had a long chat with their reporter, giving them my insider view, particularly as I am one of only a few UK recruiters who blog. Well when the Recruiter Mag came out I didn’t get a mention, I wasn’t bitter as I had already published my comments "Why I Blog" related to their questions, but it is only when you included it with their other omissions you just have to say something.

What really stands out in their article about blogging, is that it only has one link, which goes to www.web-based-recruitment.com This is a company looking to sell its service of consultancy to recruitment consultants who want a blog or promote themselves online and not to one single blog! Call me cynical but did they pay for that link or the article, whichever the case I did take time to look at their blog OnlineRecruitment which is written by Mike Taylor, so although I am cynical to Recruiter Magazine, Mikes blog I thought was excellent and informative so I shall ad him to my blog roll, mind you I would be interested to hear Mikes view, maybe he should give some advice to the Recruiter Magazine!.

Its a funny old thing the web and blogs, you never really know where you will end up!

September 21, 2006 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · 3 Comments

Its a funny old thing the web and blogs, you never really know where your going to end up at times. Yesterday I came across Blue Sky Resumes, which I considered writing some positive comment on.

What struck home was after reading their example resumes, it really pointed out how important it is to have one professionally written, if you want to be taken seriously for any senior executive role. This is a huge switch in my opinion, as I have rewritten thousand’s of cvs in my time, so to consider spending money on having a resume written for me, is a major shift and saying that having looked at mine recently it sure could do with a lot of tender loving care.

So to get back to the main point, I came across Career Hub today I really liked the way it was written and noticed they are giving away their new Careers Guide to JobSearch, which is a great read but just below the icon for the ebook I couldn’t help notice Louise’s photo, I thought I recognize that picture, quality always shines through!

While I am on this point is it true the Jobster have taken over recruiting.com?

A week in Dublin

September 20, 2006 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · Comment

Last week I didn’t get many chances to write any posts, as I was in Dublin at Arithon’s head office. In fact it was my first time in Dublin. What a great city, I certainly would recommend a visit, although next time I need to take some time out to take a look around.

What made me write this post and I apologies in advance if it feels like a sales pitch, I had the pleasure of meeting two of Arithon’s clients in Dublin and what stood out is their passion for the industry but more importantly from a personal note was how much they liked our recruitment software, particularly after the difficult week we had with the changing of the servers. It’s moments like that, which reaffirm why I decided to join Arithon in the first place.

So on that note I would like to thank Darren Darley of 1 Stop Recruitment and Brendan Murphy of Osborne Recruitment for making me feel so welcome and again congratulations to Osborne for reaching their 10th successive year in recruitment, a fine achievement.

I hope I get to meet you both again soon

Where Are All The UK Recruitment Consultant Blogs?

September 18, 2006 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · Comment

When you think about the number of Recruitment Consultants there are in the UK, how is it that so few have a blog. Is it because they just haven’t quite latched onto this medium or can they not find the time!

I must admit I find it so disappointing to find so few UK recruiters blogging, in fact I am really only aware of Louise’s recruiters blog and mine. Maybe I am just looking in the wrong place, the only real activity seems to be from the States.

I really enjoy communicating with the recruitment blogger’s in the States, I love their attitude and passion for the industry, it can be so informative particularly in regards to the changes that will be effecting our industry.

I just wish we in the UK had the same attitude, are we really that scared to share our knowledge and thoughts incase someone steals our secrets! When you think of the talent here in the UK, I am just so surprised we haven’t taken to this social networking with recruitment.

But hey, maybe you are all writing about anything but recruitment!!

Old Reliable

Bad Server Connection

What is it about technology, we cannot live with it and we cannot live without it. Today has been one of those days, all I can say is thank heavens I am not the techi.

Anyway strange as it may seem, we at Arithon the company were I actually earn a living! Have been changing the server to an all singing and extremely fast dancing machine, well lets just say it didn’t turn out that way, and are back to old reliable.

So this post is mainly for the guys and girls in the office who have been working flat out to solve the issues.

Too Much Spam, let alone the Resumes!!

September 6, 2006 · Filed Under Funnies · Comment

As I down load the next few hundred spam emails this morning, I thought I would quickly pop over to www.blaugh.com, a blog of jokes for blogger’s. So as today’s joke was relevant to recruitment consultants, blogger’s and just about anyone, I thought I would post it here also.
