Latest Recruitment Vacancies

A little while back I mentioned that you could advertise your vacancies for free on Recruitment Views,  I am pleased to some of you are beginning to take advantage of the service. Mind you I still have no idea why someone thought advertising for a HGV Driver would have had a response!

So as to give some good exposure to these vacancies I will start to drop them in the odd post, to help drive some traffic.

UK Recruitment Blogs

October 30, 2007 · Filed Under Blogging · Comment

Louise asked me to give a plug for her Recruitment Blog Aggregator, as Louise knows I would never say no, so I have fully published below.

The one stop shop for UK Recruitment Blogs
http://www.ukrecruitmentblogs.co.uk
“UK Recruitment blogs” is a one page guide to what UK recruitment bloggers are talking about.  It aggregates blog feeds from a variety of UK bloggers specialising in recruitment and is updated every 30 minutes.  It’s an excellent way to keep up to date with news and views from the industry.

The UK Recruitment Blogs website was created by Louise Triance (founder of ukrecruiter.co.uk) in January this year.  When it was first launched there were less than a dozen blogs on the page.  Now there are nearly four times that amount. Louise is happy to add UK recruitment related blogs to the site - just drop her a note at contact2@ukrecruiter.co.uk.
UK Recruitment blogs can be accessed at  http://www.ukrecruitmentblogs.co.uk

Just to add to this I want to reiterate the benefit to Recruitment Consultants to subscribing to RSS feeds, not only to Recruitment blogs for the wealth of knowledge that is often made available for free, but also you should be receiving live feeds from blogs within your chosen industry, how else are you going to be an expert in your field of recruitment!

If you do not yet know how to do it just find this logo rssfeed_logo  on your browser, click on it and you will the see a message saying subscribe to a feed often a choice, I use Google Reader but there are many alternatives. Once done you will never miss a post.

Linkedin reaches 1 million Members in the UK

October 26, 2007 · Filed Under Recruitment Advertising · 3 Comments

linkedin_millionth_ukmemberWhen you think of all the fuss about facebook and Jobster, Linkedin have quietly reached its 1 millionth member. Still this should be no news to readers of this here blog, whom I would expect are all members by now.

Thinking ahead I can see Linkedin slowly but surely having a major impact on jobboards, particularly the likes of Monster and Totaljobs who have been so dominant in the industry for the past few years, again no surprises to those using them.

There are many consultants in the UK that now use Linkedin exclusively, which when you consider 1 million equates to 1 in 60 people in the UK are members it isn’t surprising!

So well done Linkedin and I look forward to new applications and more members.

Arithon Recruitment Software Demo

October 25, 2007 · Filed Under Technology & Recruitment · Comment

It’s been a few days since my last post, which was mainly due to having my right hand in plaster, fortunately that will be removed on Monday and I will be able to get back into the swing of it again. My other excuse is I have been working hard on the production of my first ever video demo for Arithon’s recruitment software, which you can watch below via youtube or follow this link to see a larger and clearer version.

I have to admit it hasn’t been easy to put together, and it is still far from perfect, but I have been promising to do this for sometime. With the hand in plaster, it was a good excuse to take some time out to finally put the task to bed. So I am happy for any criticisms to help improve the presentation.

What I did find funny was yesterday a competitor tried to attach a link to their recruitment software video from within the comments on my blog, what depths some people will go to!

Up Yours Too!!!

October 18, 2007 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · 2 Comments

upyours I have to admit I am not a great fan of the REC, its not personal its just I have not heard a good word in their favour. The most common complaint is there is no real regulation of its members, the agency pays its money and gets the logo.

What has really ruffled my feathers is a small article in The Recruiter Magazine, on its inside back page. In my opinion it should be on the front page and we all should be kicking up a fuss.

What brainless idiot put “No agencies please” in its advert for a new CEO! I don’t think the term faux pas would be how I would describe it.

I think it’s a (censored) liberty that the our representatives for the recruitment industry haven’t the confidence in its own members. Who do they think they are!

I have to admit I am finding it hard not to fill this article with expletives, but basically its a slap in the face to all its members and non members within our industry.

Just as a reminder, this is what the The Recruitment & Employment Confederation say about themselves:

“the voice of the Recruitment Industry”

“is the only professional body dedicated to representing the interests of the UK recruitment industry.”

I would love to hear some readers comments on this issue..

Recruitment Tips from Australia

October 12, 2007 · Filed Under Recruitment Advertising · Comment

As I cannot do much else but surf the net, I did manage to come across some good video recruitment advice for job hunters on an Australian Job board, called CareerOne.

They have a series of videos covering core subjects such as “Resigning” “how to get a pay rise” and “how to deal with us recruiters,” which I had to embed below. You can also watch the others by following this link.

The videos are short and to the point and star Kate Southam, whose blog can be found here

All in all I thought this was an excellent job board, from which I am sure many of the UK and US job boards could learn from.

Not Blogging!

October 12, 2007 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · 1 Comment

I have not posted this week till now, as I had a slight accident on my Mountain bike and my right hand is in a plaster making it a little difficult to type.

Unfortunately when it comes to sport I always have to push it just that fraction too far and then I have to pay the consequences, still I am sure it was one of the attributes that helped me succeed in recruitment.

So I hope to resume service next week once I have mastered using the mouse with my left hand, unless I can find a couple of video to posts, which shouldn’t take too much effort.

More on Second Life and the Fight over at Digital Recruiting

October 5, 2007 · Filed Under Recruitment News · 1 Comment

After my post on TMP’s Recruitment fair on Second Life I received a Press Release from Tania with a heads up on their launch, as it is quite detailed I have posted it below FYI.

What did catch my eye, was while I was commentating on the fight between Monster and Michele, it also kicked off at Digital Recruiting with one of their commentator’s, you can follow it here!

Basically John wrote an article on the Second life’s recruitment fair and David Coombs of TMP UK didn’t like it, and so it kicked of with some name calling as below.

For me this post reflects a lot of the arrogance and ignorance that exists within this particular blogging community. I must say I find the approach quite disappointing from a group of individuals that all claim to be experts in this field. I do also find it entertaining that throughout all of the plagiarism and attempts to show off it actually boils down to one of the most basic of all human traits. If I don’t understand it I will attack it!

Obviously I want to add my 10 pence worth, by saying that David Cooms obviously doesn’t read these blogs, “written by a group of individuals”. If he did he would know how much valuable information is shared to recruiters for free.

I will stop short and leave it the rest of the community to carry on the discussion over at digital recruiting….

So back to Second Life:

Press Release

16 October 2007
Finding real talent through a virtual world
Imagine a world where you can interview a multitude of job seekers from around the world without having to ‘go’ anywhere; they’ll be teleported to you.
Imagine a world where you can have private conversations with forward-thinking and creative prospective employees in a lush, sophisticated and futuristic environment.
Imagine a world where you can be ‘present’ at a job fair and enjoy fantastic brand exposure without having to worry about logistics such as setting up or packing away stands and collateral.
Well there is no need to imagine anymore. That world is here now thanks to virtual reality!

The UK’s first ever ‘virtual world’ careers fair will be held in Second Life® from 16 to 18 October 2007. The event, hosted by recruitment and communications specialists TMP Worldwide, will allow leading employers to tap into new talent from around the world without anyone having to leave the comfort of their own office or home.
KPMG, The Royal Bank of Scotland Group and Yell will use this innovative new channel to connect with job seekers in a relaxed and neutral environment. While both recruiters and job seekers alike can be anywhere in the world, their avatars (computer generated images of themselves) will be attending an online interview.

Candidates will be requested to register for the companies they are interested in at the event website http://www.i-jobsforreal.co.uk
Each company will carry out some initial screening of candidates and then invite them to an interview in Second Life.

The 3-day ‘virtual world’ job fair will take place on TMP’s UK Island in Second Life from 4-8pm on the 16-18 October 2007. Once candidates enter the 3-D online virtual world, they will be greeted by virtual concierges and escorted to TMP’s virtual office where they will be given basic training on how to interact inside Second Life. They will then be teleported to the employer’s offices on the island where avatar recruiters will greet them and discussions can begin via live chat and instant messaging.

Phil Owers, deputy managing director at TMP Worldwide comments:
“We constantly strive to find new ways to reach talent for our customers. By hosting the job fair on Second Life we dissolve all geographical boundaries enabling job seekers from around the UK and the world to connect easily and cost-effectively in a friendly and impartial environment. The targeted marketing approach is consistent with more traditional routes but the experience for the candidate and customer is enhanced”

Nigel Bastow, head of resourcing from The Royal Bank of Scotland Group adds:
“The Royal Bank of Scotland Group is firmly committed to innovation. We believe in exploring all channels through which we can attract the best quality candidates to the group.”

Mile High Recruitment Video

October 4, 2007 · Filed Under Recruitment Views · 1 Comment

Hats off to British Airwaves for their recruitment campaign for Air Hostesses. They have produced a series of comedy videos, staring Pam Ann (I love the play on words) and are obviously taking the viral marketing route.

What did impress me was not so much the quality of the videos, but the fact you can go to their site and embed it where you want. Certainly more forward thinking than most corporate videos at the moment. On top of this they have a cool welcome page and a slick recruitment website.

Unfortunately it seems to me they have missed the boat for this years UK Online Recruitment Awards for the “Best National Employer’s Website” because if they had, I sure they would have won.

Now as British Airwaves have kindly given us the code here it is below:

Recruitment Video for a UK Jobs board

October 4, 2007 · Filed Under Recruitment Video · Comment

As nearly all of us use a recruitment job boards, I thought this would be of interest. It is a recruitment video for www.jobs.ac.uk ,which is a jobsite targeting careers in the academic, research, science and related professions.

Although very interesting, strangely they never mentioned which vacancy they are recruiting for!

Whatever the case you get the feeling they are better to work for than Monster, no underhand marketing going on here!!

Video is below
